  Article:   IMPORTANT MOMENTS IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE ROMANIAN ORTHODOX VICARIATE OF ALBA IULIA.

  Abstract:   Important Moments in the Organization of the Romanian Orthodox Vicariate of Alba Iulia. On 30th of August 1940 it was signed in Viena the so called “Diktat”. One of its major consequences was that the Bishopric of Vad, Feleac and Cluj was divided in two parts. One part, with eight deaneries was included in Hungary, the other part, with ten deaneries remained in Romania. Bishop Nicolae Colan of Cluj became the only Romanian orthodox bishop in northern part of Transylvania, under the Hungarian occupation. For the other part of the Bishopric (for the ten deaneries in Romania), it was founded a Vicariate in Alba-Iulia. Its president was the dean of Alba-Iulia, Alexandru Baba. The first mission of the Vicariate was to obtain the legal recognizing from the Romanian State and to find the necessary financial resources for the Vicariate’s activity. At the meeting from 24th September 1940 it was established a legacy, composed by the president and three further members of the Vicarial Council, having the duty to obtain, as soon as possible, from the state authorities in Bucharest, the legal status for the Vicariate.
